PLSOL Advent Recollection 2013

The Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) held it's annual Advent Recollection last Sunday, December 8, 2013. Attended by parishioners and church workers led by parish priest Rev. Fr. Angel Sanchez.

Guest Speaker was Rev. Fr. Maxell Aranilla,  presently the Principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary, the Director-Principal of Guadalupe Catholic School, and a Philosophy Professor in San Carlos Seminary, all in Makati City.

Fr. Maxell talk about Advent of Coming, Advent of Waiting, Advent of Beginning and Advent of Dwelling. He also pointed out of two significant persons in Advent, and that's the blessed virgin Mary. She's the witness from the conception, until the death of our Lord Jesus and John the Baptist, who prepared the way for the coming of our Messiah. He leads the people to the direction of Jesus.

Let us serve as the spotlight of real "HIGHLIGHT" of this advent season which is "JESUS".

Parish Symposium - Month of September 2013

The Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) held it's regular monthly symposium, Saturday, September 21, 2013.  Resource person was Rev. Fr. Yulito Q. Ignacio, STL.  He talked about "Mary, Model of Faith".  More than eighty parish workers attended and found the topic very interesting and enlightening.

Fondly called Fr. Itoy, who is currently the Head Spiritual Director, Philosophy Department of San Carlos Seminary, says "Our devotion to the Virgin Mary is perfectly grounded in Scripture which portrays Mary as the exemplar of faith..."

Here's some of my notes:

In Gen. 3:15:

"I will put enmity, FIGHT, BATTLE, between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring"

But the battle has just began with the first book of the Bible, GENESIS.

The Battle continues....

Battles includes the loss of the many souls...

The worst death is that of a soul who loses faith...

The worst death is that of a soul far from God...

The worst death is that of a soul far from His love...

The worst death is that of a soul far from His commandments...

A soul drowning in a life of sin...

What is the great battle we are waging today?

Blessed John Paul II calls it "culture of death,"

The culture of death includes the Destruction of Human Life.

The outstanding characteristic of the Church in the Philippines is to be a "pueblo amante de Maria" - a people in love with Mary.

>Even before the coming of the Spanish missionaries, there was a small dark image of the Blessed Virgin, known only as coming "from the sea," venerated on the shores of Manila Bay.

>Thus originated the devotion to Nuestra Señora de Guia, Our Lady, Guide of the Way, the oldest extant image in the Philippines (PCP II 153)

The typically "Filipino" approach to Christ, therefore, is with and through Mary.

Devotion to Mary has always been intimately intertwined with Christ.

The two central mysteries of our Faith in Christ, INCARNATION and REDEMPTION, are deeply marked by the veneration of Mary.

The mystery of the Incarnation celebrated at Christmas, and of the Redemption celebrated during the 

Holy Week, are deeply marked by the veneration of Mary.

INCARNATION:

>The Veneration of Mary is portrayed graphically in the Simbang Gabi (Misa de Gallo or de Aguinaldo) and the panunuluyan at Christmas time. (NCDP 242)

REDEMPTION:

>The Veneration of Mary is portrayed graphically in the Salubong in Easter Sunday morning (NCDP 242).

Marian devotion and piety seem co-natural to us Filipinos. Our deep devotion to the Mother of God has been the strongest force keeping our faith alive (cf. AMB 67). Mary has been and remains the central inspiring force in bringing about a deeper evangelization of the masses of our people.

Mary is truly a sign of sure hope and comfort for God's people for the triumph of their faith.

If victory of goodness over evil triumph in our country, it will be through the intercession of Mary.

DIOCESAN EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS 2013

The Diocese of Paranaque's first Diocesan Eucharistic Congress was held at St. Andrew Cathedral in La Huerta, Paranaque City, September 14, 2013.  This was attended by more than 1,200 enthusiastic delegates from the Diocese' six (6) Vicariates. Resource person is Rev. Fr. Genaro Diwa.

Kasalang Bayan 2013

KASALANG BAYAN 2013 of the Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) was held last Saturday,  June 22, 2013. Officiated by our Parish Priest  Rev. Fr. Angel Sanchez and witnessed by their respective Sponsors, nine (9) lovely couples exchanged I do's.  The sanctity of the Sacrament of Marriage is a ceremony that is not only filled with pompous or grand physical preparations (for most), but what is more important is the couple's commitment to live together as husband and wife, for better or for worse with Christ as the center of their lives. 

Simple and meaningful reception sponsored by the Commission on Family and Life followed, and was held in the formation center. 

God is Awesome!

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

The Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) held the Eucharistic celebration for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Main celebrant is no less than Most Reverend Jesse Mercado, D.D., Bishop of Paranaque, last Sunday, June 2, 2013. 

Also known as Feast of Corpus Christi, which is Latin word for "Body of Christ", this is celebrated properly on a Sunday after the Holy Trinity Sunday.

St. Paul says in the 2nd Reading (1 COR 11:23-26)

I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,
that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over,
took bread, and, after he had given thanks,
broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me."
In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying,
"This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

Recounting Bishop Jesse's Homily:

>Bishop Jesse mentioned that our parish' celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi is in consonance with the Diocesan Year of the Eucharist, which the Diocese of Parañaque is observing this year.  

In his homily, Bishop Jesse expounded the dynamics and structure of the mass, which is in two parts, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

The entrance song is supposedly a gathering song, encouraging the parishioners to congregate inside the church while singing joyfully in preparation for the upcoming celebration of the Holy Mass.

The Liturgy of the Word begins with the First Reading which is taken from the Old Testament, to which we respond by way of the Responsorial Psalm.  This is followed by the Second Reading which usually comes from the letters of St. Paul as written in the New Testament.  Again, we respond by singing the Alleluia which at the same time anticipates the proclamation of the Gospel.  

The Gospel is God's word/message to us written by any one of the four Evangelists which is explained through the Homily.  The Homily correlates what God's message is to our everyday life and that serves as our guide as we live in the modern times.  This establishes the truth that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.  Our response to God's message is by way of praying the Apostles Creed.

As a community, we then lift and pray for our petitions through the Prayers of the Faithful followed by the Offertory, where we offer ourselves and our gifts to God.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist begins with the Doxology, where the priest recites "through Him, with Him, in Him, in unity with the Holy Spirit, all Glory and Honor is Yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever", to which we respond "Amen".  This is the part where Jesus Christ is offered as a sacrifice, whereby the bread and wine are transformed to Christ' Body and Blood.

As an expression of being one family and one with God, we pray the Lord's Prayer ("Our Father").  We then share the peace of Christ as a sign of being one family.

As we share Christ' peace, Jesus then shares Himself to us during the Holy Communion.  When we receive Him, we receive life.  When we eat His body, we become part of that bread which will transform us to become more and more like Christ, and not Him becoming a part of us.

Towards the end of the mass, we are all enjoined to go and live the message of God, to live the Eucharist and be an instrument of God's love.  This we can do in simple ways, a gentle touch, a sincere smile, an act of kindness.  We become brothers and sisters, and that is the secret to become "Eucharist". <By Deity Lim>

PENTECOST SUNDAY 2013

Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2013, celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, which marks the end of the Easter season in the Christian calendar. Also known as the "Birthday of the Holy Catholic Church."

The Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) celebrated it through a re-enactment of the scene performed by the youth and some of the church workers after the anticipated Mass last Saturday, May 18, 2013.

It's SUMMERTIME... FUN TIME!

The Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord (PLSOL) church workers held their summer outing in Sea Breeze Resort in Taguig City, May 6, 2013.

More than 130 parishioners including members of their families participated in this fun activities organized by the Parish, headed by no less than the parish priest Rev. Fr. Angel Venancio Sanchez. 

Started the day by a Holy Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Angel and Rev. Fr. Vincent Rozario, assistant parish priest.

It's a wonderful day of swimming, fun games, sharing of food to eat, singing videoke style and more.
